SEATTLE — If you’re looking for a summer getaway that’s not too far from home, Grays Harbor County has something for everyone. The area is a combination of coastal charm, outdoor adventure and laidback small-town vibes.
Outdoor enthusiast and Grays Harbor County local Amy Spoon provides five ways to fully experience the area and soak up the best of summer.
Beach activities
From clam digging to horseback riding, the beach provides hours of entertainment. You can fly kites, let your dog play in the sand and surf.
“It’s a highlight in Grays Harbor County,” Spoon said. “There’s so much to do on the beach.”
Quinault Rainforest and Lake Quinault
Lake Quinault Lodge’s lakeside lodging provides a picturesque, cozy place to stay with access to kayaking, fishing and paddleboarding. It’s also an ideal area for short or long hikes with quick access to the world’s largest spruce tree.
Coastal cuisine
Redeviva features local seafood and shellfish, as well as locally farmed and foraged produce on its seasonal menu.
“It changes almost every single day, so one of my biggest recommendations is go with some people,” Spoon said. “It’s going to be really hard to choose what to get, so get a little bit of everything and share if you can.”
Ocean Crest Resort offers guests the opportunity to enjoy award-winning food while watching the ocean.
“If you’re thinking coastal cuisine with a great view, this is going to be your spot,” Spoon said.
There are also a variety of wineries and breweries to explore throughout the county, as well as Westport Fresh Catch to help you find the best places to buy seafood and cook it for yourself at home.
Sport fishing
You can enjoy charter fishing out of Westport and fish for salmon, steelhead and trout in lakes and rivers.
“If you’ve never been tuna fishing, put that on your list,” Spoon said. “You can fish tuna fish out of Westport, and it is a ton of fun.”
Seabrook
This coastal community provides a beautiful spot for relaxing getaways, big family reunions or weddings.
“They’ve designed it to where once you arrive, you really don’t need to get in your car anymore,” Spoon said.
There are small cottages and large villas with plenty of nearby food options, shopping and outdoor activities.
