BREMERTON, Wash. — A decade-long project to revitalize downtown Bremerton will culminate this weekend with the grand opening of Quincy Square, named after music legend Quincy Jones.
The City of Bremerton and Downtown Bremerton Association will host a celebration July 12-13 featuring free music, family activities, food vendors and tours of the new amenities. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. to noon July 12 on the stage across from the Roxy Theatre.
Jones, whose father moved the family to Bremerton during World War II when the future music producer was 10, discovered his love for piano in the Sinclair Heights neighborhood. The piano he once played, formerly housed in the Bremerton Armory, is now displayed at the Kitsap History Museum.

"Quincy Jones is quite literally the inspiration behind this project," said Jessica Combs of the Downtown Bremerton Association. "This is such a huge opportunity for Bremerton to get away from this reputation we've had for several years of just being a Navy town with not much to do."
The revitalization includes a colorful four-story mural on a parking garage created by Louisiana artist Kadavien Baylor, who incorporated Jones' signature colorful scarves into the design. The entire block received fresh paint and new businesses, including the reopened Roxy Theatre, which had been mostly closed for decades.
Officials say the project represents more than revival — it's a reawakening that transforms Bremerton into a cultural hub for arts and entertainment.
