SEATTLE — The Seattle Reign made a splash Thursday morning, signing former top-five draft pick and U.S. Women's National Team forward Mia Fishel to a long-term contract.
The 24-year-old comes to Seattle from Chelsea FC, where she helped lead the club to multiple European titles. Fishel will be signed with the Reign through the 2029 season.
“We’re pleased to bring Mia Fishel to Seattle Reign FC,” said Lesle Gallimore, Seattle Reign FC general manager. “Mia is a player with tremendous upside – a goal-scorer with presence, creativity and a drive to keep growing. This move represents an important step in her return to top form, and we’re committed to giving her the environment and support to thrive. We believe in her ability to make a real impact in the NWSL and are looking forward to what she’ll bring to the club and our fans.”
Fishel was once the No. 5 overall pick in the 2022 National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) Draft by the Orlando Pride, but opted to begin her professional career in Mexico instead. Before going pro, Fishel starred at UCLA, where she was a two-time All-American and First-Team Pac-12 player.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to bring Mia into our squad,” said Laura Harvey, Seattle Reign FC head coach. “She’s a forward with world-class potential who’s already accomplished so much in her young career. Mia’s ability to disrupt defenses, finish in different ways makes her a dangerous addition to our group. We’re excited to help her take the next step and can’t wait to see her on the field soon.”
Fishel debuted for the USWNT in 2023 and appeared in three matches. She was also a 2020 finalist for the U.S. Soccer Young Female Player of the Year.
