SEATTLE — If you want a vintage ski lodge vibe but don't want to travel to the mountains, head to Seattle's White Center neighborhood and look for The Alpine Diner and Bar.
Inside, skiers literally wallpaper the place. There are vintage ski photos, snow shoes, skis and ice skates adorning the walls as well.
Explore the back room and you'll find extra touches - a ski lift chair complete with snowy scenery, skee ball games, and a cozy fireplace.
Food is hearty diner fare, and they serve breakfast all day long. Servings are huge, and from 2 to 5 p.m., the happy hour deals are a steal - nothing on the happy hour menu is more than $7. You can also find New York Style Pizza at Big Mario's, which shares the space and the bar.
"I think we definitely wanted you to feel like you're walking into a lodge...having a nice warm meal, just like you were up in the mountains skiing," said Chelsea Arnold, assistant operations manager for Daydream State, the restaurant group that owns this place. "Thanks to the Alpine Diner, it's always ski season in White Center."
"We just love being here and serving the community!"
