SEATTLE — The Seattle Mariners selected LSU's Kade Anderson with the No. 3 overall selection Sunday afternoon in the 2025 Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft.

Anderson, a left-handed pitcher, was widely considered the best collegiate prospect in the 2025 draft class, according to MLB Pipeline and Baseball America. Anderson finished his last collegiate season with a 3.18 earned run average and 180 strikeouts compared to 35 walks.

The newest Mariner was named the College World Series' Most Outstanding Player after LSU claimed the championship. Anderson allowed six hits and one earned run, along with 17 strikeouts, during his team's title run.

Scott Hunter, Mariners vice president of amateur scouting, said Anderson is a polished starter with four strong pitches.

"His mid-90's fastball and three-plus secondary offerings are something that jumps out, but his pure feel to attack the strike zone and command of his arsenal is what makes him special," Hunter said Sunday in a release. "We feel this type of physical talent, coupled with his winning pedigree, will fit perfectly in our pitching culture."

MLB Pipeline ranked the 6-foot-2 pitcher as its No. 2 overall prospect in the draft class. Anderson was ranked fourth by Baseball America.

Anderson will join the company of Mariners aces Logan Gilbert and George Kirby, who were selected in the first round of the MLB Draft in 2018 and 2019, respectively.
