WSU and EWU men's basketball teams agree to three year 509 Classic deal

The first game in the series will be played December 17 at the Spokane Arena.

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Washington State and Eastern Washington men's basketball programs have agreed to a three-year series dubbed the "509 Classic" at the Spokane Arena.

The first game of the three-game series will be played on December 17. This year's game will mark the sixth year in a row the two teams have faced each other.

“We’re excited to participate in the 509 Classic and bring Cougar basketball to Spokane again. We’ve said we want to play everyone in Washington, and this event gives the Cougs and the Eagles a chance to continue a historic series that dates back over 100 years," WSU head coach David Riley said in a press release.

“We’re thrilled to bring Eastern basketball to Spokane for the 509 Classic. This is more than just a game—it’s a chance to showcase our program and engage our passionate fan base, along with over 45,000 EWU alumni living in the heart of the Inland Northwest, as we build a tradition that celebrates everything Eastern Washington represents. We’re excited to compete and be part of something that will energize the entire region," EWU head coach Dan Monson said in a press release.

The Cougs hold a 59-13 series lead and have only lost twice in the last 10 games between the two schools.
