OLYMPIA, Wash. — A Lacey paramedic revived an unconscious puppy, possibly exposed to fentanyl, with Narcan Tuesday.
“This is a first,” said Lacey Fire District 3 Lt. Bryce Craig, who has worked as a firefighter and paramedic for 17 years.
On Tuesday morning, the Nisqually Police Department called for a medical evaluation of a person under investigation in the parking lot of a mini-mart in the 12800 block of Yelm Highway SE.
Craig said when he arrived he was told there was a dog in the car that may have had access to opioids. He said the dog was not in good shape.
”Unresponsive, eyes closed, tongue sticking out if it’s mouth, not breathing very well at all,” said Craig.
The paramedic, who has administered Narcan to people, decided to give the puppy what Craig referred to as a "small" dose of Narcan. Craig said the dog woke up and seemed “back to normal” after about two minutes.
The dog appeared to be fine and happy, said Craig.
“He was licking lots of folks there,” said Craig.
Craig said they left the dog in the care of county animal services and Nisqually police.
Nisqually police have not responded to inquiries about the whereabouts of the dog or whether the owner was cited.
