SEATTLE — During the second Saturday of June - Seattle Mountain Rescue responded to three calls for help in various parts of the region.
As the weather gets warmer, the calls for help increase.
Seattle Mountain Rescue is a team of volunteers that was founded in 1948 to be sure capable climbers were ready to rescue fellow climbers who may have fallen into dangerous situations.
The nonprofit's President and Chairperson Doug McCall and treasurer Raquel Lackey stopped by the KING 5 on Sunday to talk about the group's mission and the equipment needs.
Currently, Seattle Mountain Rescue is fundraising to buy a new command vehicle. They're looking for donations and potential corporate sponsorships to fund that vehicle. You can make a donation by clicking here.
In addition to its experienced crew of people - trained support dogs, Ruffles and Bungee, accompany them. The dogs contribute by giving personal interactions that Lackey says makes a tremendous impact on the team's wellness and at times, the emotional state of a person waiting nearby during a loved one's rescue.
Volunteer applications will be accepted again in the fall.
