Intel increases Oregon layoffs

Intel Corp. revised the number of Oregon workers being laid off from 530 to 2,392, still set for July 15 at four Intel campuses.

HILLSBORO, Ore. — Intel Corp. has dramatically upped the number of Oregon employees being laid off from 530 to 2,329.

The corporation had initially filed a layoff notice on Tuesday, saying that the layoffs were set to begin July 15 and would affect Intel's Aloha campus, along with the Ronler Acres, Hawthorne Farms and Intel Jones campuses in Hillsboro.

But according to a WARN notice, the number was revised up to 2,329 workers, who are not represented by a union. The layoffs are still scheduled for July 15 and will be at the four locations.

In mid-June, the company announced plans to lay off between 15% to 20% of its worldwide factory workers, citing affordability challenges and the current financial position of the company.

The decision on layoffs comes about four months after Lip-Bu Tan took over as CEO from Pat Gelsinger. Since then, Intel made a deal to sell off a majority stake in its Altera programable chips unit to a private equity firm, according to a report from the Portland Business Journal, a KGW News partner.

Intel employs roughly 107,000 workers worldwide and 20,000 in Hillsboro.
