WASHINGTON — “Harry Potter” star Emma Watson has been banned from driving for six months after being caught speeding in the U.K., BBC News reports

The 35-year-old actress, best known for playing Hermione Granger in the “Harry Potter” film franchise, was clocked driving 38 mph in a 30 mph zone while behind the wheel of her blue Audi in Banbury, Oxfordshire, last July.

Watson already had nine points on her license prior to the incident, leading to an automatic six-month driving disqualification after an additional three points were added.

Watson did not attend the brief five-minute hearing at High Wycombe Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, where she was ordered to pay a total of £1,044 (approximately $1,400 USD).

Her lawyer, Mark Haslam, told the court that Watson is currently a student pursuing a master’s degree in creative writing at the University of Oxford but is “in a position to pay the fine.”

Watson rose to fame in 2001 with “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” going on to star in all eight films in the franchise. She later appeared in titles such as “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” “The Bling Ring,” and “Beauty and the Beast.” Her most recent film role was in Greta Gerwig’s 2019 adaptation of “Little Women.”

In an interesting coincidence, Watson’s “Harry Potter” co-star Zoe Wanamaker was also banned from driving for six months due to a speeding offense, on the same day and in the same courtroom.

Wanamaker, 76, who portrayed Madam Hooch in the first “Harry Potter” film, was caught driving at 46 mph in a 40 mph zone on the M4 in Newbury, Berkshire, on August 7, 2024. She too had nine existing points on her license and received three more, triggering a temporary ban.

Like Watson, she was ordered to pay £1,044.
