WASHINGTON — A popular brand of yogurt sold in stores across the U.S. is being recalled because the dome toppers that contain add-ons, such as granola or candies, may have sharp bits of plastic in them. 

Danone U.S. issued a voluntary nationwide recall of all flavors and sizes of its YoCrunch yogurt products on July 11. 

The YoCrunch is recognizable by the distinctive dome-shaped lids on top of the package, containing small treats like candy that can be mixed into the yogurt. 

Danone said it received consumer complaints reporting sharp-edged, transparent plastic fragments in the toppings. Some pieces ranged in size from 7 to 25 millimeters, posing a potential choking hazard, particularly for children, the company said. 

The recall impacts all YoCrunch products currently on the market, but notably does not impact the yogurt itself, according to the company. 

No injuries have been reported in connection with the recall. 

"Danone U.S., the makers of YoCrunch, takes every consumer experience seriously and is initiating this voluntary recall in line with its commitment to product quality and consumer safety," the company said in a press release announcing the recall. 

It's unclear exactly how many YoCrunch packages are included in the recall, but they were sold at retail stores nationwide. Danone said it was working with stores to get the affected products off store shelves and is actively addressing the issue to bring YoCrunch back safely. 

Customers are being advised not to eat the toppings on affected products and to throw them away.
