WASHINGTON — Nintendo is taking fans to the kingdom of Hyrule, and now we know who’s coming along for the adventure.
In a surprise announcement shared via Nintendo’s official app and social media channels Wednesday morning, game designer Shigeru Miyamoto revealed who will be playing Zelda and Link in the upcoming live-action movie, “The Legend of Zelda.”
Bo Bragason, known for her roles in the BBC One series “Three Girls” and “The Jetty,” will star as Zelda. Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will portray Link.
Ainsworth previously was the voice of Pinocchio in Robert Zemeckis’ live-action “Pinocchio” and played Miles in the Netflix series “The Haunting of Bly Manor.”
"I am very much looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen," Miyamoto said in the post.
The announcement also featured what appeared to be first-look images of both actors in costume.
The movie is currently set to hit theaters on May 7, 2027, a shift from its original March 2027 release window. Miyamoto previously cited “production reasons” for the change.
The live-action adaptation is being directed by Wes Ball, best known for “The Maze Runner” and “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.”
The Legend of Zelda franchise, first launched in 1986, has become one of Nintendo’s most beloved and enduring series, with over 140 million units sold worldwide.
The movie’s release follows Nintendo’s previous global success with the Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023. This time, they’re teaming with Sony for what could be one of the most ambitious video game adaptations to date.
